2019 is just on the horizon, and we know you’re already thinking about next year’s dance costumes and competitions!

We’re thinking about next year too, so we thought it’d be useful to talk through the top costume trends we saw throughout 2018. We expect these Top 5 trends to carry through into the New Year, and inform the costumes we create in 2019 and beyond!

5 – Open Front Skirts

Open front skirts add dramatic flair to your performance, without the front-facing fabric that sometimes impedes your movement – a win-win! Open fronts also pair well with any number of tops and accessories, including leotards and crop tops.

–  Minimalist Designs

Minimal, monochromatic styles pervaded 2018, because dancers have found that simple lines and straightforward colors complement dramatic routines perfectly! Minimalist costumes accentuate a dancer’s shape using design elements that speak for themselves and let your movements shine.

–  Soft, Romantic Colors

We put a lot of our performance and competition dancers into muted pink, red, and purple costumes last year – and they looked great in them! Classic black is also, of course, still in. And if you’re competing in Cheer, Pom, soft colors aren’t for you. But if you’re a competition Jazz or Lyrical dancer, consider pastels.

–  The Cold Shoulder

We’ve been giving plenty of our dancers the cold shoulder recently! These cut-outs add a touch of elegance to most any uniform and look great on every dancer.

 Mesh. Is. Queen.

Mesh is still the fabric of the moment, and we don’t expect that to change next year. Mesh provides the fit and flexibility that dancers need, and also offers unique options for designers like ourselves! We love weaving mesh insets into dance uniforms, creating sublimated mesh costumes, and designing mesh jerseys for our cheer teams. Mesh was huge in 2018, and it’s going to be big in 2019, too.

Of course, 2019 is just starting. And there will likely be new trends to be found in the New Year! We enjoy keeping up with whatever new styles the dance world throws at us, and we’re looking forward to a great year of working with our clubs, teams, and dancers.
